Copy the data from HomePort to the prepared memory card. A while back, Garmin 'updated' HomePort to remove the Active Captain support. Supposedly, this was to comply with security laws in Europe. Never the less, both the Navionics and the Aqua Maps 'apps' for phones and tablets support Acti 0. HomePort trip-planning software for Garmin marine devices lets you transfer BlueChart data between your chartplotter and your computer, making it easy to view charts in detail on your computer and mark waypoints and other points of interest. Download the Garmin HomePort file into a directory on your hard drive. (i.e., c: downloads). Change to the directory in which you downloaded the files, (i.e., c: downloads), and run the executable file (.exe). Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the HomePort installation. Garmin Homeport is a must-have trip-planning tool for mariners heading out on the open water. This planning software – now available on a Mac or PC – enables the use of existing BlueChart data from your preloaded chartplotter or pre-programmed card to help plot a course on your computer.

I have been using HomePort for years and find that it is a great route planning tool. It is much easier to use my PC or Laptop to plan a route. Copy your route to a SD card and load into your plotter. I also export my routes in .GPX format to use in the iNavX iPad app. The Active Captain website can also import/export GPX route files, if you copy or create a route on the Active Captain web site export as GPX then import into HomePort. You can then transfer to a SD card for your chart plotter.

If you own a Garmin Handheld GPS, it can simply be plugged into your computer using the cord (or cell phone cord that fits) and plugged into the USB port on a windows computer, then follow the ‘how to load’ instructions in the very next paragraph.
HOW TO LOAD WAYPOINTS TO MOST GARMIN HANDHELD GPS – Right Click and “copy” your GPSUPLOAD.GPX fishing spots file found inside the zip file we emailed to you. Now, simply Plug your Garmin Handheld into your windows computer’s USB port. Then your computer asks “what would you like to do”, At that point, simply click on “open folder to view files”. Then, open the Garmin Folder. Then simply find and open the GPX folder, the right click and select “paste”. This will place your GPSUPLOAD.gpx file into the GPX folder of the handheld. Always load one file at a time if you have multiple area files. After this, simply close the Garmin window, unplug the GPS, You’re Done and the spots are there!

Step 2: Save the GPSUPLOAD.gpx file found inside the zip file we emailed to you. Save on your computers desktop or download folder for easy access because you’ll need it shortly. If you purchased more than one area, you’ll repeat this process of needed to load additional area files.

Step 3: Watch the video below for STEP BY STEP instructions to get your SD Card loaded with your new fishing spots. Pause the video if needed, and follow along. This process should take around 5-7 minutes, or less to complete.
